Booking.com Foodie Getaway @ Adelphi Hotel

Gastrology recently enjoyed a wonderful weekend of indulgence at the iconic Adelphi Hotel booked via Booking.com. A world leader in booking accommodation online, Booking.com guarantees the best prices for any type of property – from small independents to five-star luxury.

The Comfy King Room

Adelphi Hotel is the world’s only dessert-themed hotel, with thirty-four scrumptious rooms, adorned with Bon Bon shaped pillows and licorice stools. This delectable hotel is located in the heart of Melbourne’s iconic Flinders Lane shopping and dining precinct.

The Adelphi Hotel’s recent transformation is stunning and was undertaken by Melbourne-based design practice, Hachem. We loved stepping away from the bustling city streets to discover our lovely, sweet box inspired room which featured a complimentary Happylab minibar and unlimited latest release movies.

Our comfy king room was generously proportioned with a king-sized bed, 42-inch hi-definition flat-screen TV, universal radio-alarm clock bedside docking station, writing desk with power hub recharging stations, couch, coffee table, safe, iron & ironing board and plenty of cupboard space.

Large industrial inspired bathrooms and luxury Appelles Apothecary bathroom amenities completed the sense of indulgence.

The hotel also offers guests access to a glass-bottomed, cantilevered swimming pool that extends a full two metres beyond the building's periphery, to hover above Flinders Lane. We couldn’t resist having a dip in the pool before dinner and staring down through the base of the pool at the pedestrians below.

Dinner @ Om Nom

While Flinders Lane boasts an abundance of cosmopolitan cafes, restaurants and bars, nothing can ever beat the sheer luxury of strolling down from your room for dinner. Adelphi Hotel is the perfect place to experience desserts that, quite literally, resemble works of art.

While desserts are a focus, the Om Nom menu also includes a variety of savoury dishes which are simple, fresh and fun and are a great way to prepare yourself for the desserts to come.

We particularly enjoyed their Wagyu tataki. Displaying technique, elegance and skilful restraint, the tataki was both beautifully presented and delicious.

With the savoury courses out of the way, it was time for dessert. Greed got the better of us and we settled on three aesthetically pleasing desserts.

The Mango Alphonso was our favourite dessert of the night. We enjoyed the intense and unique flavours of the mango mousse and shiso cremeaux petit choux. A modern twist on the French classic, “choux à la crème”, the petits choux boasted delicately light choux pastry and accompanied by a very fresh kalamansi sorbet and lemongrass ginger coconut foam. Coconut pearls and a white chocolate crumble added interest and bursts of flavour.

After finishing the last of our dessert courses, and perhaps having consumed a touch too much wine, we commenced the 30 second journey back to our room - you cannot get better than that!

Back in our room...

Once back out our room, we were pleasantly surprised to find that our room had been refreshed and macarons had been placed on our bedside tables - this certainly added another sweet touch to our stay.
